RAG-Anchorable Text Blocks Implementation
Overview
This document explains how to implement RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) anchorable text blocks in the textbook content. These blocks will enable future integration with a RAG-based chatbot system.
Implementation Method
HTML Comments for Chunk IDs
Text blocks that should be searchable by the RAG system are marked with HTML comments in the following format:

## Chunk ID Naming Convention
### Format
- Use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only
- Separate words with hyphens
- Be descriptive but concise
- Use the pattern: `[domain]-[concept]-[descriptor]`

## Content Structure for RAG
### Self-Contained Blocks
Each RAG chunk should be self-contained with:
- Clear context within the block
- Complete explanations
- Relevant examples when applicable
### Avoiding Orphaned References
- Ensure each chunk can be understood independently
- Include necessary context within the chunk
- Avoid references to content outside the chunk
## Validation Process
### Manual Validation
1. Verify all RAG chunk IDs are unique within the document
2. Confirm each chunk contains complete information
3. Check that chunk boundaries make sense for search queries
### Automated Validation
Future systems will validate:
- Chunk ID uniqueness across the entire textbook
- Proper formatting of chunk ID comments
- Content completeness within each chunk
## Best Practices
### For Authors
- Place chunk IDs at natural content breaks
- Ensure chunks are of reasonable length (not too short or too long)
- Use descriptive IDs that clearly indicate the content
- Maintain consistency in chunk placement across the textbook
### For Content Quality
- Each chunk should provide value when retrieved independently
- Include examples and explanations that make the concept clear
- Use consistent terminology within chunks
## Future Integration Notes
